Introduction to Photovoltaic Glass

Release time:

2023-07-13

Photovoltaic glass, also known as "photovoltaic glass", is a special type of glass that compresses solar photovoltaic modules, generates electricity using solar radiation, and has related current extraction devices and cables. It is composed of glass, solar cells, film, back glass, special metal wires, etc., and is the most innovative high-tech glass product for construction.

The main raw materials for photovoltaic glass include quartz sand, soda ash, limestone, dolomite, sodium nitrate, saltpeter, sodium pyroantimonate, aluminum hydroxide, etc. Its production process is mainly divided into two major stages: raw material production and deep processing. Raw material production is the process of mixing, melting, rolling, annealing, and cutting raw materials to obtain untreated semi-finished photovoltaic raw materials, which are then further processed. The deep processing process includes two steps: tempering and coating. The original sheet is ground and tempered to obtain tempered sheets, or tempered and coated to obtain coated sheets for component packaging.

At present, the mainstream product of photovoltaic glass is low iron tempered embossed glass (also known as tempered suede glass), with a thickness of 3.2mm or 4mm. In the wavelength range of solar cell spectral response (380-1100nm), the transmittance can reach over 91%, and it has a high reflectivity for infrared light greater than 1200nm. It is made by using a special embossing machine to press special pyramid shaped patterns on the surface of ultra white glass.

The main function of photovoltaic glass is to protect the battery from water vapor erosion, block oxygen to prevent oxidation, resist high and low temperatures, have good insulation and aging resistance. It is an important component of solar photovoltaic modules, with significant value in protecting solar cells and ensuring transparency.

The advantages and disadvantages of photovoltaic glass are as follows:

advantage:

Photovoltaic glass can generate electricity using solar radiation and is a clean and renewable green energy source.

Photovoltaic glass has the functions of protecting the battery from moisture erosion, blocking oxygen to prevent oxidation, resistance to high and low temperatures, good insulation and aging resistance.

Photovoltaic glass can improve the transmittance of glass, increase the transmittance of light, and enhance the efficiency of photoelectric conversion.

Photovoltaic glass can save space by being installed on unused roofs or exterior walls without the need for additional land occupation.

Photovoltaic glass can lower the overall outdoor temperature, reduce wall heat gain and indoor air conditioning cooling load, and play a role in building energy conservation.

Disadvantages:

The cost of photovoltaic glass is relatively high and requires professional installation and maintenance.

The power generation of photovoltaic glass is unstable due to the influence of sunlight conditions and seasonal changes.

Photovoltaic glass may have quality issues such as self explosion, delamination, bubbling, bulging, and yellowing, which can affect its service life and safety.

Photovoltaic glass needs to be connected to the grid and is subject to grid policies and price constraints.
